Prices are set to rise again on July 14. The industry, heavily dependent on both fuel and petroleum-derived chemicals, is expected to go up 5 to 7 %. This is, of course, bad news to retailers, many of whom are already having trouble making ends meet.
There will be a small, incremental increase on Greenfield's laminate and moulding products as of August 1, 2008. The increase will be modest, reflecting the current costs of transportation and raw materials.
Direct Access and Barrett Carpet Mills will go their separate ways (effective May 2008). Like retail in general, main street commercial has suffered greatly this year. It is difficult for a small manufacturer (inside sources say $12 -$15 million annual sales) to compete with the majors. Barrett says that they will be working on products to present to the A & D community, where most commercial carpet is specified. We wish Barrett well.
If a dealer has a problem with an installation or has an administration problem, the dealer can either contact me or Barrett directly.
For those dealers that have purchased inventory or have requested samples, there are few products available that offer such a high degree of "greeness". Unfortunately, the yarn system, manufactured by Pharr Yarns, is in short supply. The promise dates for delivery are now running 6 to 8 weeks. Patience, please. Pharr's PET yarn is continuous filament, solution-dyed (saves water on the coloring process) and starts with 25% post-consumer recycled content. We hope that yarn products this green are a trend.
